Architectural Salvage, Kansas City-Style

A couple of weekends ago, Cowboy and I went to [Antiquities and Oddities] Architectural Salvage in downtown Kansas City with some friends. While this place can be a little pricey, it's fun to look at what they have.

I didn't get any pictures of the four of us (snap! Why do I ALWAYS forget to get pictures??), but I did find a couple of treasures (to me, anyway); I found this old glass jar (I've started collecting glass jars) and a skeleton key.

The loverly glass jar now houses my homemade laundry detergent. It's perfect for the job!

Warning: their web site is nothing impressive, but you can visit it here.

It's an old building in downtown Kansas City full of equally old, interesting and strange things. It is truly full of antiquities and oddities. You'll find everything from a birdcage elevator (just on the floor in the middle of the room...not actually working) to old pink commodes (gross!) and urinals (grosser!) to old wooden doors, retro arcade games, lighting and hardware. It's definitely fun to look around. Then to marvel at how much they want for their stuff.

Speaking of which, they do not haggle. At least until you're spending over $100 with them (that's what the elderly cashier told me. She was very sweet in her rainbow sweater).

  1. Ha! I've actually been in this store and it was a bit overwhelming. Only a crafty person like yourself would have the eye for something that could turn into a beauty!
